There are generally three methods for the application of silane coupling agents:
One is a surface treatment agent as a skeleton material; the other is added to the binder, and the third is directly added to the polymer material. The first two methods are better from the perspective of giving full play to their effectiveness and reducing costs.
The application of silane coupling agents can be roughly summarized into three aspects:
1. It is used for the surface treatment of glass fiber, which can improve the bonding performance of glass fiber and resin, and greatly improve the strength, electrical, water resistance and weather resistance of glass fiber reinforced composite materials. Even in the wet state, it has a significant effect on the mechanical properties of the composite. The use of
silane coupling agents in glass fibers has become quite common. The silane coupling agent used in this aspect accounts for about 50% of the total amount consumed, among them, the more widely used varieties are vinyl silane, amino silane, methacryloxy silane, and so on.
2. It is used to fill plastic with inorganic filler. The filler may be surface treated in advance or added directly to the resin. It can improve the dispersibility and adhesion of the filler in the resin, improve the process performance and improve the mechanical, electrical and weather resistance properties of the filled plastics (including rubber).
3. It can be used as a tackifier for sealants, adhesives and coatings to improve their bonding strength, water resistance and weather resistance.Silane coupling agents often solve the problem that certain materials have not been able to bond for a long time.
