Organic silicon materials include silicone oil, silicone rubber, silicone resin, etc. Thanks to its unique and superior biocompatibility, low surface activity, mild, soft and smooth properties, the amount of organic silicon (silicone oil and its derivatives) in the personal care industry is increasing.

In recent years, the demand for silicone in the Asia Pacific market is very strong, accounting for more than 50% of the global silicone consumer market, and China is in a leading position. From 2014 to 2021, the annual average consumption of organic silicon in China exceeded 8%. The main consumer markets include health and personal care, construction, home care, textile, automobile and transportation. It is expected that after 2022, including the support of the Chinese market for quantity pursuit and quality improvement, there will be a greater consumption of cosmetics products, and the demand for organosilicon in the health and personal care markets will increase rapidly and continuously.
Personal care products and home care silicone (silicone oil) are the largest application fields, and will grow at a rapid rate in the five-year forecast period. Organosilicon (silicone oil, silicone lotion, silicone elastomer gel, etc.) is widely used in the daily chemical field, such as personal care products, shampoo, hair care products, cosmetics and home care products. So far, the silicone products that have been successfully developed and can be used in personal care products include: dimethyl polysiloxane, methylphenyl polysiloxane, hydrogen silicone oil, cyclic polysiloxane, methyl polysiloxane lotion, polyether modified silicone oil, alkyl modified silicone oil, amino modified silicone oil, silicone wax, silicone resin, silicone treated powder and other series of products. Personal care products can be mainly divided into three categories: hair care, skin care and makeup.

1、 Skin care
The maintenance of skin moisture is the main factor for skin beauty. The oil in skin care cosmetics has a significant impact on the evaporation of skin moisture, while the oil with good moisturizing (water) property can improve the quality of skin care product formula. Silicone oil is the best moisturizing oil, and its flexibility and smoothness have the highest retention rate on the skin surface. Silicone oil has a high hydrophobicity, which can form a thin breathable micro film on the skin surface, giving the skin a soft and smooth feeling. It is washable and breathable, making people feel fresh and comfortable; Volatile silicone oil and viscous silicone oil are dispersed in the silicone cross-linked polymer to form silicone elastomer gel, which brings outstanding dry, silky, soft and other skin feelings to the formula of skin care cosmetics products. It is not greasy, has excellent thixotropy, and becomes the best product for personal care and beautification.

2、 Hair care
The surface tension of silicone oil is extremely low, which can spread evenly on the surface of hair protein to form a protective film. After dyeing and scalding, the damaged hair becomes hydrophilic due to the loss of hydrophobic oil film on the hair surface. The moisture in the hair is easy to volatilize, leading to dry hair. The damaged hair scales will be damaged or raised. Protect the damaged hair with silicone oil, form a hydrophobic protective film on the hair surface, restore the raised hair scales to a flat state, and the hydrophobic protective film formed by hair oil can also prevent the loss of a large amount of hair moisture, making the hair soft, bright and easy to comb.

3、 Make up
One of the most important roles of silicone raw materials in cosmetics formulation technology is film forming. It can form a layer of breathable color fixing film on the skin surface, which is waterproof and oil proof, and helps gorgeous colors resist various external migration. The color makeup film provided by silicone raw materials can be either a dry and durable resin hard film, a comfortable and flexible resin soft film, or a vinyl elastomer with both velvet skin feeling and film forming effect. All kinds of products play a unique role in different makeup formulations, achieving the effect of "combining hard and soft".
