The Function of Co-Formula Silane Coupling Agent in Organic Adhesive
Co-Formula silane coupling agent is a compound that can produce a certain binding force with polar substances and non-polar substances at the same time, which is characterized by having both polar and non-polar parts in the molecule. Organic functional groups such as amino group, epoxy group, alkyl group and phenyl group are often chemically combined with the organic functional group in the adhesive matrix resin; methylamino group, ethylamino group, etc., these genes are easily hydrolyzed into silanols and combined with inorganic substances (glass, silica, etc.). , metals, clays, etc.) surface oxides react with hydroxyl groups to form stable silicon-oxygen bonds. Therefore, by using a Co-Formula silane coupling agent, a “molecular bridge” can be set up between the interfaces of inorganic substances and organic substances to connect two materials with completely different properties, thus effectively improving the bonding strength of the interface layer.
Adding Co-Formula silane coupling agent to the adhesive can not only improve the adhesive strength, but also improve the durability of the adhesive and its resistance to moisture and heat aging. Polyurethane, for example, has relatively high adhesion to many materials, but its durability is less than ideal. After adding Co-Formula silane coupling agent, its durability can be significantly improved. When studying the wet-heat durability of titanium alloy bonding parts, by adding Co-Formula silane coupling agent to the epoxy adhesive used, the shear strength retention rate of the bonding parts after wet-heat aging is increased from about 80% to 97%. Co-Formula silane coupling agents can even be directly used as adhesives for bonding silicone rubber, fluororubber, etc. to metals.
In order to improve some properties of organic adhesives (such as heat resistance, self-extinguishing, stability, etc.), or to reduce the cost of organic adhesives, some inorganic fillers are often added to adhesives. If pre-treated with Co-Formula silane coupling agent, the polar genes on the surface of the filler react with the Co-Formula silane coupling agent, thereby greatly reducing the structuring effect between the filler and the resin. It not only greatly improves the compatibility and dispersibility of the filler to the adhesive matrix resin, but also significantly reduces the viscosity of the system. However, it is not effective for all fillers to be treated with silane coupling agents. Different types of fillers have different effects, and some even have no effect.
Method of using Co-Formula silane coupling agent in organic adhesive
(1) Surface pretreatment method
Co-Formula silane coupling agent is formulated into a dilute solution with a concentration of 0.5%-1%. When using, just apply a thin layer on the clean surface to be adhered, and it can be glued after drying.
(2) Migration method
Co-Formula silane coupling agent is directly added to the adhesive component, and the general addition amount is 1%-5% of the base resin. After gluing, depending on the diffusion of molecules, the molecules of the coupling agent migrate to the adhesive interface to generate Co-Formula coupling agent effect. However, there are also adhesives that require fast curing speed. After gluing, they need to be cured in a short time, so that Co-Formula silane coupling agent can complete the migration process, and the effect is better.
