The proportion of additives in the formulation of coatings is relatively small, but they play a very important role.

I、Levelling agent 
CFS-A45 Surface Control Leveling Agent [TEGO Glide 450].
The role of leveling agent is to improve the flatness of the coating, including anti-cratering, anti-orange peel and hanging phenomena. Different types and the same type of coatings have different mechanisms to stay flat due to different film-forming substances.
It mainly has the following three functions: (1) reduce the surface tension between the coating and the substrate, so that the coating has good wettability to the substrate; (2) adjust the evaporation speed of the solvent, reduce the viscosity, improve the fluidity of the coating and prolong the leveling time; (3) form a very thin single molecule layer on the surface of the coating film to provide a uniform surface tension.

II、Thickeners 
After adding thickener to the paint, the viscosity increases and a thixotropic fluid or dispersion is formed. This prevents the aggregation and precipitation of dispersed particles in the storage process and prevents the phenomenon of hanging when painting. Thickeners are called thixotropic agents in solvent-based coatings and thickeners in water-based coatings. In the preparation of emulsion coatings, the addition of thickener can control the evaporation rate of water and prolong the film formation time, so as to achieve the function of film leveling.

III、Surfactant

Suitable surfactants are generally used in aqueous coatings to improve the dispersion of pigments, and sometimes surfactants can also increase the compatibility of different components. The surfactants commonly used in water-based coatings are mainly alkyl phenol polyoxyethylene ether tears nonionic surfactants.
